Diabetes which is one of the major reason for any kind of renal disease, should be taken very seriously. Patients who has diabetes or has a family history should always have regular check-ups to rule out any kind of renal disease. DaVita has stepped into Diabetology with it's experienced team of experts. We conduct Diabetes Screening camp in our centres often to promote the awareness among patients.

Why is Diabetes screening important?

A diabetes screening helps us assess your risk for a number of long term health conditions such as:

  • Type 2 diabetes - Type 2 diabetes often take a turn to chronic kidney disease
  • Heart disease - Diabetes contributes to high blood pressure and is linked with high cholesterol which significantly increases the risk of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease
  • Stroke - Similar to how diabetes affects the heart, high blood pressure and cholesterol raises the risk of strokes.
  • Kidney disease - The kidneys are another organ that is at particular risk of damage as a result of diabetes and the risk is again increased by poorly controlled diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol.
  • Some forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease - People who develop type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure in middle age appear more likely to suffer brain damage that can contribute to dementia as they grow older.

Why is Kidney screening important?

Diabetes is the number one cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage renal failure. Your kidneys are organs that filter waste and excess fluid from your blood. When there is too much sugar in your blood, the filters in your kidneys (called nephrons) become overworked. About 30 percent of patients with Type 1 (juvenile onset) diabetes and 10 to 40 percent of those with Type 2 (adult onset) diabetes eventually will suffer from kidney failure.
