Chicken helps up the serum albumin level or maintain it. However, when you consume chicken, you should ensure that it is fresh and not processed. Also avoid chicken dishes that have high levels of sodium and phosphorus. Chicken provides about 14 to 28 grams of protein.
Burgers are not only a good source of protein but also supply good amounts of iron to the body, thus helping anemia in patients with kidney disease. A 3-ounce burger made of turkey or lean beef will provide you with 21 grams of protein.
- Egg white
Egg white is a high quality protein source which is also low in phosphorus, so kidney patients can consume it on a daily basis. Two egg whites provide approximately 7.2 grams of protein.
- Egg Omelet
An egg omelet made of a single egg and 1 egg white with healthy oil provides 17 grams of high-quality protein to the body.
- Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese has less potassium and phosphorus than milk and yogurt, so it’s a good protein source for kidney patients. However, ensure that the cottage cheese you consume is low in sodium.
Fish like trout, salmon and fatty fish are high-quality protein sources, and they are high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, good for heart health. Fish can be consumed by kidney patients at least twice a week. A 3-ounce portion of cooked fish bears 7.2 grams of protein.
- Greek Yogurt
One cup of Greek yogurt carries 22 grams of protein and can be had as a meal replacement if your dietician agrees to it.
- Beans, Peas and Lentils
